The Latvian children’s summer camp in Washington was started in 1951 to give our younger generation an opportunity to maintain the Latvian language, experience and learn about Latvian traditions, and have fun with other children of Latvian descent. We emphasize use of the Latvian language, observation of Latvian traditions, participation in all camp activities, and respect for camp facilities and the environment. We expect good behavior, cooperation and a “can do” attitude from all participants while closely observing camp policies and rules. Each day children receive instruction in the Latvian language, folk dancing, singing, and crafts, and they participate in a variety of games and sports. Each evening there are campfire performances—skits, songs, and games.

Mežotne accepts children ages 6 through 14 who participate in groups according to age, and 4 and 5 year olds in the Little Birds group, accompanied by a parent or guardian fluent in the Latvian language.

Mežotne is a „closed camp” with scheduled activities each day from the morning flag ceremony until lights-out at night. It is essential for camp security that no one leaves the premises without prior permission from the camp director. Your cooperation and understanding of this policy will insure everyone’s safety and well-being while at camp.

Before arriving at camp, please review the camp rules with your child/children.
